LawRedact — Personal Information & Data Processing
Effective: April 8, 2026 | Last updated: August 21, 2026
LawRedact ("we") operates the LawRedact desktop clients (Windows / macOS), mobile applications (Android / iOS / HarmonyOS), and the website at www.lawredact.com (collectively, the "Services" or "LawRedact Products").
This Privacy Policy explains which information stays on your device, which information we may process when you use our website or licensing services, and the safeguards we apply.
LawRedact is designed to detect and redact sensitive information locally on your device. Unless expressly stated below, we do not access, upload, or store the documents you process or the redacted files you export.
Please read this Policy carefully before using the Services. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Scope
This Policy applies when you obtain, install, or use LawRedact Products through our website, app stores, or offline installers.
This Policy does not govern third-party apps that receive files you share through system share sheets or "Safe send." Those apps are subject to their own privacy policies.
If we publish supplemental notices for specific features or campaigns, those notices prevail where they conflict with this Policy on the covered topic; all other matters remain governed by this Policy.
2. How the Software Handles Data
LawRedact desktop and mobile products are built to run in offline or isolated-network environments. In the software, we commit to the following:
(1) No document uploads: Content you open, import, capture, review, or export remains on your device or paths you choose. It is not transmitted to our servers.
(2) On-device recognition: Bundled recognition and OCR models run inference on your hardware. Models do not learn from or retain your document content online.
(3) No tracking SDKs: The apps do not integrate third-party SDKs for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking.
(4) No silent exfiltration: The software does not send document content to external servers in the background. Updates are delivered only through installers or app-store channels you initiate.
3. Data Stored Locally by the Software
To provide recognition, review, export, and diagnostics, LawRedact may create and store the following data on your device. This data does not leave your device unless you copy, back up, or export it:
(1) Preferences and configuration: Redaction policies, language, layout, app-lock settings, and similar options — generally not personally identifiable.
(2) Tasks and outputs: Imported files, captured images, redacted results, and reversible mapping files (e.g., .maskmap), stored in install directories, app sandboxes, or output paths you specify.
(3) Runtime and diagnostic logs: Status, errors, and metadata such as file names, timestamps, and entity counts — typically without document body text.
(4) Processing and review history: Desktop clients may keep local processing history and auditable review actions for your workflow; this is not automatically synced to the cloud.
You may inspect, modify, export, or delete this local data at any time, including by uninstalling the software or clearing app data.
4. Information We Collect on the Website & for Licensing
When you visit our website, submit inquiries, purchase licenses, or use online activation, we may process:
(1) Contact and transaction data: Email addresses you provide at checkout or when contacting us, used for order confirmation, activation instructions, invoicing where applicable, and support.
(2) Order and license records: Order IDs, plans, device counts, platforms, order access tokens, and machine-ID / license-key bindings required for authorization. These records do not contain document content.
(3) Payment data: Payments are handled by Alipay, WeChat Pay, PayPal, or other payment processors. We do not store full payment account or card details.
(4) Support submissions: Names, organization details, contact information, and descriptions you voluntarily provide.
(5) SMS product information (with your consent): If you opt in on forms such as the trial application, we may send short messages to the mobile number you provide about LawRedact trials, product features, and related updates. Messages are sent through our SMS service provider and do not contain document content you process in the apps. You may reply R to opt out of marketing SMS at any time.
We retain this information only as long as necessary to fulfill transactions, comply with law, and resolve disputes, after which we delete or anonymize it where appropriate.
5. Website Access & Analytics
To maintain security, improve the site, and understand conversion, our servers or service providers may log visit timestamps, page paths, browser type, language preference, referrer URLs, anonymous session identifiers, and aggregated traffic statistics.
This information is used in aggregate and is generally not sufficient to identify a specific individual. It is not used for personalized advertising.
You may refuse or delete cookies and local storage in your browser; some features (such as checkout session continuity) may not work if you do.
We use Baidu Analytics (tongji.baidu.com) to collect aggregated visit data such as page views, referrers, and conversion metrics. Baidu may use cookies or similar technologies; see Baidu's published privacy policy for details.
We may enable additional analytics tools in the future and will update this policy or the website when we do.
6. How We Use Personal Information
We use personal information only for:
(1) Contract performance: Processing orders, issuing and validating licenses, and providing downloads and activation support;
(2) Communication and service: Responding to inquiries, sending necessary product or policy notices, handling refunds or disputes, and—where you have opted in—sending LawRedact product information by SMS;
(3) Security and compliance: Preventing fraud, license abuse, and security incidents, and meeting legal obligations;
(4) Service improvement: Analyzing aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified website usage to improve product information and checkout flows.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for unrelated marketing without your consent. You may withdraw SMS marketing consent by replying R or contacting us.
7. Sharing & Processors
We do not share document content with third parties because we do not access it.
We may share personal information described in this Policy with:
(1) Payment processors, to complete transactions you initiate;
(2) Infrastructure and email providers, to host the website, store order data, and send transactional email;
(3) Authorities, when required by applicable law.
We require recipients to handle personal information under contract and applicable law and to apply reasonable security measures.
8. Security
We use HTTPS, access controls, least-privilege practices, and other reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect website and licensing data.
LawRedact's local-first architecture reduces the risk of documents leaking over the network. You remain responsible for securing source files, license keys, and order links through device encryption, screen locks, and access controls.
If a personal-data incident occurs, we will take remedial steps and notify you as required by applicable law.
9. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, copy, correct, supplement, delete, withdraw consent, or request deletion of records we hold about you, depending on the services involved.
Data stored locally on your device can be managed directly in the app or through system settings without contacting us.
To exercise rights or raise questions, comments, or complaints about this Policy, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable period after verifying your identity where necessary.
10. Children
LawRedact is intended for professionals and organizations. Our Services are not directed to children under 14.
If you are a guardian and believe a child has used our website services or provided personal information without consent, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when products, laws, or regulatory requirements change. Revisions will be posted on the website with an updated "Last updated" date.
If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify you through the website, in-app notice, or email where appropriate.
Continued use after an update means you have read and understood the revised Policy. If you disagree, stop using the Services and contact us regarding any pending transactions or licenses.
